Bob Arum Asks Anthony Joshua To Step Aside So He Can Make Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk Next
Bob Arum is looking to make Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk next, as long as the Englishman gets past Deontay Wilder.
On Saturday in England, Joshua lost his heavyweight titles for the second time in his career as Usyk outboxed him to win a clear-cut decision. It was a dominant performance from Usyk and after the fight, Eddie Hearn confirmed Joshua would be exercising his immediate rematch clause.
“It’s going to be really difficult because Usyk’s confidence will be sky-high, but when you get to the level of Anthony Joshua, as we saw after the Ruiz defeat, there’s no 10-round comeback fights and warm-ups,” Hearn said to SkySports of an immediate rematch. “It’s straight back into the fire and he will want to go straight back into that rematch. He will be an underdog in the rematch this time after that tonight, but that’s what he does.”
Although Hearn and Joshua will do an immediate rematch with Usyk, Bob Arum, the promoter of Tyson Fury is hoping that doesn’t happen. Instead, Arum wants to make Fury vs. Usyk next and let Joshua get a comeback fight but would be guaranteed a shot at the winner.
“Bob Arum has proposed that Anthony Joshua‘s team agree for him to step aside and let them make the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk undisputed fight next. He said AJ could take a comeback fight and be contractually guaranteed a shot at the winner for all four belts,” Arum said to IFLTV.”
Whether or not Joshua and Hearn will agree to that is unlikely. In order for that to happen as well, Fury will need to beat Wilder again on October 9 as if he doesn’t, Fury and Wilder would have to run it back for the fourth time. Regardless, there are big fights in the heavyweight division to make in early 2022.
