Bob Arum Gives Update On Vasyl Lomachenko
Bob Arum has provided an update on Vasyl Lomachenko and when he may fight again.
Lomachenko hasn’t fought since May when he defeated George Kambosos Jr. by TKO to win the IBF lightweight title. There were talks in place for Lomachenko to face Gervonta Davis later this year, but Arum says that won’t happen.
“We’ll see him again. (Lomachenko) made that clear,” Top Rank Chairman Arum said.
According to Arum, Lomachenko wants to take the rest of the year off, and plans on fighting again in 2025 against whoever makes sense.
“He doesn’t want to fight for the rest of the year – it’s legitimate, stuff to do with Ukraine and his family,” Arum said… “It could be ‘Tank’ as far as Lomachenko is concerned. He’s made his money and he’s saved his money.”
The hope for many fans is the fight against Gervonta Davis happens, but Lomachenko’s manager has said his fighter isn’t in the mood to fight.
“Loma is not in the mood right now. He doesn’t have the motivation at the moment,” Lomachenko’s manager, Egis Klimas, told boxing reporter Steve Kim on Friday (via ESPN). “He’s taking off. He wants to spend more time with the family. … With Loma, just money is not what motivates him. He doesn’t take anything just because of money. You can offer him millions, tens of millions of dollars — if he doesn’t have motivation, he’s not ready to prepare for the fight.”
Lomachenko is 18-3 as a pro and coming off the win over Kambosos Jr. back in May.
