Bob Arum Open To Making Ryan Garcia vs. Teofimo Lopez Next Under One Condition
Bob Arum is open to having Ryan Garcia fight Teofimo Lopez if Garcia still has a relationship with Golden Boy.
Garcia has been publicly feuding with Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy ever since his loss to Gervonta Davis. De La Hoya didn’t show up to the press conference which Garcia wasn’t happy with.
With Ryan Garcia and his promoter not getting along, Bob Arum says it feels premature to try and make the fight happen right now.
“Yeah, I mean, I’ve talked to Oscar, I’ve talked to Eric, who are good friends,” Arum told FightHubTV. “They would like to make that fight. It depends on their relationship with Ryan. I don’t want to get into it because I don’t know enough about it. But if they can truly produce Ryan that would be a huge fight for both guys and I would certainly be interested in it. Co-promotion with Golden Boy is something we’ve done very often.”
If Bob Arum can’t get the fight with Ryan Garcia next for Teofimo Lopez, he’s unsure what would be next for him.
However, Arum has a lot of confidence as he believes if Teofimo Lopez is on mentally, nobody can beat him at 140lbs.
“I think if Teo is right (mentally), nobody beats him at 140,” Arum said. “I really believe that. You know, if Teo is distracted with personal problems, then Garcia who really punches hard, can win by knockout. So again, when you’re dealing with fighters you don’t know what you’re going to get from fight to fight with a lot of them.”
Teofimo Lopez is 19-1 and coming off a decision win over Josh Taylor back in June to win the WBO and The Ring light welterweight titles.
