Bob Arum: Tyson Fury Expecting Kubrat Pulev To Beat Anthony Joshua
Bob Arum isn’t the only one who believes Kubrat Pulev can defeat Anthony Joshua — WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury seems to as well.
Joshua defends his heavyweight titles against Pulev this Saturday in what will be his first fight since regaining the belts against Andy Ruiz Jr. in December last year.
A win would put Joshua on course for a highly-anticipated title unification double-header with Fury in 2021. That’s if he wins, of course.
Arum — who notably promotes Pulev and Fury — has already gone on record explaining why he felt Joshua would lose. And according to the longtime promoter, even Fury seems to believe an upset is on the cards.
“Pulev is big, rugged. Joshua is vulnerable and I really feel that Pulev will not only beat him, but will knock him out,” Arum said (via The Mirror). “It will disappoint my other guy, the WBC champion Tyson Fury, who is looking forward to fighting Joshua.
“I talked to Tyson yesterday and we were making plans for him to fight other fighters. Because he agrees with me – there is a great chance Pulev will upset the apple-cart and beat Joshua.”
Could it be mind games? It’s certainly possible but it doesn’t help anyone — especially the Fury camp — if Joshua loses so there definitely might be genuine concern.
“The Gypsy King” even previously predicted in September that an upset was possible.
“It’s heavyweight boxing, especially someone as big as they are, either could win,” Fury told iFL TV. “If Andy Ruiz can knock Joshua out, then Pulev definitely can. Pulev’s a lot bigger guy and punches probably harder than Ruiz does.”
We are just two days away from finding out.
Do you think Pulev can pull off the upset?
