Dillian Whyte Wants To Fight Francis Ngannou For The UFC Heavyweight Title
Dillian Whyte, the current WBC interim heavyweight champion, is interested in crossing over to MMA to face Francis Ngannou for the UFC heavyweight title.
Although Whyte is in a key position to fight a big named opponent next time out, he still likes the idea of trying to become the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion and fighting Francis Ngannou.
“Imagine me going and winning the UFC heavyweight championship,” Whyte said to talksport. “I’d be the first boxer to ever do that and, with the stage of my career that I am, I can do that. As the interim heavyweight champion, going and winning the UFC undisputed heavyweight championship, I am definitely up for that.”
Although Whyte is interested in that fight, it’s unlikely it would ever happen. The UFC has a ton of options for Ngannou’s first title defense and Whyte isn’t the biggest name in boxing, as opposed to the likes of Anthony Joshua, and Tyson Fury. It’s also likely that if a crossover happened, it would be Ngannou going into boxing and trying to become a heavyweight champ in boxing.
However, Whyte’s promoter in Eddie Hearn, likes the odes of the fight. He also would like to see two fights, one in boxing and one in the UFC with belts on the line in both.
“I love Francis Ngannou. We almost had a presser with Dillian Whyte and him, but the UFC shut that down after we taped it. We do have the footage, though,” Eddie Hearn said. “I would love to see a double matchup with Ngannou and Dillian Whyte. One in the cage and one out of it.”
For now, Dillian Whyte is awaiting his next fight offer. He was interested in facing Deontay Wilder, but as of right now, it doesn’t seem likely that the fight will happen.
