Boxing Judge Terry O’Connor To Face Investigation After Being Accused Of Being On His Phone During A Fight
Terry O’Connor is facing an investigation by the British Boxing Board of Control after it appeared he was on a cell phone during the Lewis Ritson vs Miguel Vazquez fight.
Robert Smith told the Boxing News he would be doing an investigation.
“I’m very, very disappointed. This has to be looked at and investigated as it will be. I am so frustrated that this seems to have happened,” Robert Smith said. “After the hard work we do behind the scenes we have something like this emerging. Personally, I am so disappointed. I can’t say anything more on this at this point.”
It caught the attention of the boxing world as Eddie Hearn called for the judge to be fired for his actions. It is no doubt a bad look for the sport so the promoter doesn’t think he belongs in boxing.
If that’s a phone (and I presume it is) then then BBBofC should immediately remove him.
O’Connor also scored the fight for Ritson giving him a split-decision win. However, Hearn and many other pundits thought Vazquez should’ve won the fight.
Watching from home and felt Vasquez deserved the win there.
Eddie Hearn even took it a step further as post-fight he called for the judge to be fired as he said the scorecard is a disgrace.
“117-111 to Ritson was a disgrace of a card.” Hearn insisted during a post-fight interview with IFL TV. “And it’s terrible for the sport… People have gotta be accountable for bad decisions. If you’re in a job and you don’t perform well, then you’ve gotta face the consequences.”
As of right now, it is uncertain what the BBBofC will do with judge Terry O’Connor. Many have called for him to be fired and with the outrage behind it, perhaps that is what they will decide to do.
