Brian Castano Open To Errol Spence Jr. Fight If He Moves Up
Brian Castano is interested in fighting Errol Spence Jr. if the champ moves up.
Castano and Spence Jr. have a history as the 154lbs WBO champion beat Spence Jr. when they were amateurs. Castano has since claimed the fight was not close at all and the ref had to count on Spence Jr. twice, and he has said he has wanted the rematch as pros.
“I fought with Errol Spence and I beat him in an American tournament in Venezuela,” Castano told K.O. Artist Sports. “I think the professionals is something else. But yeah, I won, and I’m waiting for the day we make the fight with Spence! For a rematch at the professional level.”
Spence Jr. has talked about going up in weight for quite some time and there is an expectation that he does. If he does move up, he could very well face the winner of Castano vs. Jermell Charlo 2 on Saturday and for Castano, he says that is the fight he wants. Yet, in order for that to happen, he will need to beat Charlo after fighting to a draw.
“If he moves up, I’ll be waiting for him,” Castano said of Spence. “I’ll challenge him. I hope he accepts. But first things first. First I have a war with Jermell Charlo.”
Brian Castano (17-0-2) is coming off the draw to Charlo last July. Prior to that, he beat Patrick Teixeira to win the WBO light middleweight title and also holds notable wins over Wale Omotoso, Cedric Vitu, and Michel Soto.
Errol Spence Jr. (28-0) is coming off a TKO win over Yordenis Ugas to defend his belt. He was supposed to face Manny Pacquiao last year but he was forced out of the bout due to an eye injury. If he doesn’t move up, there is talk he will face Terence Crawford next.
