Caleb Plant Believes He Proved He Belongs At The Top, Vows To Be The Champ Again
Caleb Plant suffered his first career loss on Saturday night in an 11th-round TKO defeat to Canelo Alvarez, but he believes that proved he belongs at the top.
Plant was looking to become the undisputed super-middleweight champion but came up short against Alvarez. He took to social media to release a statement and say he proves he will be the champion again.
“I’ve bent most the world to my will and done it with nothing but passion and skill,” Plant said after the fight on Twitter. “I’ll be back. I showed I belong on the top level and I’ll be champion of the world again. I’ve never been scared to go big or go out on my shield. Thank you to all the fans and all my supporters,” Plant stated.
With the loss, Plant dropped to 21-1 as a pro and is now in a unique spot. He has tons of options for his next fight but will likely return sometime in the middle of next year. He’ll likely get a few tune-up fights or winnable fights before he gets another title fight. However, with Alvarez being the undisputed champion, he may have to move divisions to reclaim a title.
Alvarez after the fight, meanwhile, said he respected Plant as he was a difficult fighter to face. He also said their rivalry was over.
“Definitely my respect for Caleb Plant, he’s a very difficult fighter, he had a lot of ability,” Canelo Alvarez said. “I do respect the fighter. He wanted to still fight me, he wanted to still continue. I told him, ‘There’s no shame, we had a great fight today.’ He did say sorry, that he didn’t mean it that way. Everything is okay.”
