Canelo Alvarez Backs Dmitry Bivol To Beat David Benavidez
Canelo Alvarez believes Dmitry Bivol could beat David Benavidez in a potential bout.
Bivol is set to face Artur Beterbiev on Oct. 12 in a highly-anticipated bout and one potential fight that could happen next is against Benavidez. Bivol and Benavidez are former sparring partners and if they end up boxing, Alvarez is backing his former opponent to get the win.
“If Benavidez is like we saw in the last fight, yes, Bivol beats him,” Alvarez told BoxingScene and other media.
Ultimately, Canelo Alvarez also doesn’t think David Benavidez will have success at 175lbs, which is why he believes Dmitry Bivol would beat him. Alvarez is also confident he would be able to defeat Benavidez.
“Look, 175 is his weight class. And he did nothing at 175. He’s not the same,” said Alvarez. “I don’t want to say what he needs to do. If the money is right, I’ll fight anyone. Right now is the time for me to ask for the money. If they want me to fight him, they need to pay me good. If there is something good for me on the table, I am in. I don’t care,” added Alvarez. “He just brings 25 more pounds to the table. It’s a risky fight. But I can beat that guy, but not in the way I always did. It could be [that I fight Benavidez before I retire]”
Before that fight can happen, Canelo Alvarez is set to take on Edgar Berlanga on Sept. 14 in an intriguing bout as the Mexican vows to f**k up Berlanga.
“I don’t care what kind of fight he brings. I’m going to f**k that guy up,” said Alvarez. “He’s nervous. We need to understand that.”
Alvarez is coming off a decision win over Jaime Munguia back in May. He is currently 61-2-2 as a pro.
