Canelo Alvarez Claims He Wasn’t 100% In Dmitry Bivol Fight, Wants Rematch At The Same Weight
Canelo Alvarez is confident a rematch with Dmitry Bivol will go very differently.
Alvarez and Bivol met back in May as the Mexican was fighting for the WBA (Super) light heavyweight title. Alvarez ended up coming up short as he lost a clear-cut decision and he has been adamant about wanting a rematch and he wants it at the same weight.
“Same weight, that’s it”, Alvarez said in an interview with La Saga, according to Izquierdazo (via BoxingScene). “Of course I can win. It’s not a matter of belief, it’s because I know I can. That is my priority now.”
Why Canelo Alvarez believes a rematch would go differently, is because he is now healthy. He had wrist surgery and says it was bothering him in the Bivol fight which caused him some problems so he thinks now that he is healthy it will be different.
“That is something I want to do, and I know I can win,” Alvarez said. “Because I know how I went into that fight, I know what I can do, and what I will do. I couldn’t do things properly, because I didn’t train as I wanted to. Because of my (injured) hand and all that. I lacked one or two rounds to win. I was highly competitive. Since I couldn’t have a proper training camp, I won the early rounds and then began to get tired. At the end, I’m sure I didn’t give my 100%, and he did. He (Bivol) can’t give anything more, and I can.”
As of right now, a rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol does seem likely but it’s uncertain when it will happen. However, Alvarez is confident he will get his hand raised and shut a lot of doubters wrong.
