Canelo Alvarez Explains Why He Views His Fight Against Caleb Plant Being Personal
Canelo Alvarez has made it known his fight against Caleb Plant on November 6 is personal.
Alvarez and Plant got heated at the press conference which resulted in the two hitting one another. After that, the Mexican has said this fight is personal and explained why in the lead-up to the bout.
“All the talk, all the s**t he says. That’s why (it’s personal),” Alvarez insisted of his upcoming WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO super middleweight championship showdown with Plant (via BoxingScene). “He crossed the line and maybe too much, that’s why it’s personal. At the same time, it’s one of the most important fights for me.”
Canelo Alvarez enters the fight coming off a stoppage win over Billy Joe Saunders. He’s 56-1-2 as a pro and is arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport as he has been going up to different weight classes to fight.
Plant, meanwhile, is undefeated as he’s 21-0 and coming off a dominant over Caleb Truax. He’s the current IBF super-middleweight title and is looking to win all the belts on Saturday and pull off the massive upset.
However, Alvarez is confident he will not only win but will be able to get the finish and put on a beating. He says with the fight being personal, he knows what he has to do to get his hand raised and become the undisputed champion.
“They know what I’m going to do in the ring, even more so in this fight,” insists Alvarez, who is coming off an 8th round stoppage of then-unbeaten WBO super middleweight titlist Billy Joe Saunders in May. “When something is personal with me, it’s different. In my mind I have that special thing. It’s going to be a really good night for us.”
