Canelo Alvarez Not Bothered By Jake Paul, Other YouTubers Boxing
Canelo Alvarez doesn’t see a problem with Jake Paul and other YouTubers boxing.
YouTube boxing became extremely popular over the last three or four years and has only grown since Paul’s rise to fame. However, for Canelo Alvarez, he has no problem with those fights because he says it is a different audience than those who watch his fights.
“The truth is that he [Jake] obviously brings another type of audience, the boxing audience is different, we bring the boxing audience. And personally, for me, another audience that may not see much boxing but wants to see Canelo, he brings that other audience… YouTubers, younger people and it’s good that people get to know boxing on the other hand,” said Canelo to ESPN Deportes (via boxingscene).
There is no question the YouTube fights have a massive audience because those fighting have millions of subscribers and followers that will watch them.
For Alvarez, he is just focusing on his own fight against Billy Joe Saunders on May 8. It’s a very intriguing bout and the Mexican is confident he will win. He also knows it’s a big fight as it broke the presale record.
“I feel happy because we broke the presale record, I feel very good, grateful to the people and I hope they enjoy this fight. I feel happy, motivated, I am here for that, to make history and this for me is very important, it is what motivates me to continue,” Alvarez added.
Alvarez is coming off a third-round TKO over Avni Yildirim and before that, earned a dominant decision over Callum Smith. If he gets past Saunders on May 8, it’s uncertain who would be next, but the Mexican is hoping to be active in 2021.
