Canelo Alvarez Not Ruling Out Terence Crawford Fight
Canelo Alvarez isn’t ruling out a potential fight with Terence Crawford in the future.
The WBO ordered Sebastian Fundora to face Crawford, which was disappointing to the champ but Fundora’s promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz says he is waiting for the bout to come to fruition.
“I’m waiting on an offer now, and I’m certain one will not come until after the 14th,” Lewkowicz said. “I’d like to find out right now if [Crawford’s] going to fight for the money or the titles. I believe he wants the money. [Crawford] will do everything he can to fight Canelo, and [his team] will not call me until after the fight.”
However, after hearing of the order, Canelo Alvarez says that doesn’t mean a potential Terence Crawford fight won’t happen next time out.
“I don’t think so,” Alvarez said. “I’m not saying that fight can’t happen. That order doesn’t matter.”
Although Canelo Alvarez is interested in the Terence Crawford fight, Lewkowicz says the Fundora fight will be next and he is confident Fundora would hand Crawford his first career loss.
“[Crawford] is 37 years old, and Sebastian Fundora will kick his fucking ass,” Lewkowicz said. “If [Crawford] fights the way he fought [Aug. 3], he has no shot – he will get knocked out by Fundora.”
Lewkowicz also says the money demands that Crawford wants won’t happen, as he heard he wants 80-20 for a Fundora fight which he says won’t happen. But, if Canelo Alvarez does want the Terence Crawford fight, the Mexican would have a great chance of securing the matchup.
Terence Crawford is 41-0 as a pro and coming off a decision win over Israil Madrimov back in August. Before that, he scored a TKO win over Errol Spence Jr., and has notable wins over Shawn Porter, Kell Brook, Amir Khan, Jose Benavidez Jr., and Jeff Horn among others.
