Canelo Alvarez Says 2021 Might’ve Been The Best Year Of His Life
Canelo Alvarez had a phenomenal 2021 in the boxing ring and he says it might’ve been the best year of his life.
Alvarez went 3-0 in 2021 with a third-round win over Avni Yildirim in February, an eighth-round stoppage win over Billy Joe Saunders in May and an 11th-round TKO win over Caleb Plant to unify the super middleweight division. With that, the Mexican is pleased with what he accomplished this year.
“For me it was an unbelievable year, maybe the best year of my life,” Alvarez confessed to Fox Sports’ Ray Flores while ringside for a Fox Sports Pay-Per-View event in Hollywood, Florida (via BoxingScene). “I got married to my wife. Then, everything I accomplished in boxing. It was amazing.”
With Alvarez becoming the undisputed champion he became the first Mexican—and Latino—to claim undisputed championship status in the three- or four-belt era. Now the talk is Alvarez will box WBC cruiserweight champion, Ilunga Makabu to become a champion in another weight class but for Alvarez, he says he will box whoever his trainer wants him to face as he doesn’t care who it is.
“I don’t care,” Alvarez stated when asked who he would next like to face. “I don’t care, really. Whatever Eddy wants, I’m ready for everything. I don’t care. I really don’t think about it. I just want to fight the best and make history. I don’t care who is there. I’ll fight everyone.”
Canelo Alvarez is currently 57-1-2 as a pro and remains one of the best boxers ever and too many, the best pound-for-pound fighter to date.
