Canelo Alvarez: Things Still Personal With Gennadiy Golovkin
Things are still personal between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin.
Alvarez is set to take on Dmitry Bivol for his WBA light heavyweight title on May 7.
Should Alvarez come out on top as expected, he will face Golovkin in a highly-anticipated trilogy fight at 168 pounds on September 17.
Before things were official, Golovkin recently spoke of how he felt he won the first two fights between himself and Alvarez.
The first fight was respectful in the buildup and despite many believing “GGG” had won, it ended up being a split decision draw.
The second fight was much more heated after Alvarez tested positive for clenbuterol in the buildup, but the Mexican ended up winning a unanimous decision in a competitive affair.
While they embraced each other after the fight, things still seemingly remained personal going by Golovkin’s comments.
“I have the opinion that I won both fights,” Golovkin said. “But some people are comfortable being delusional. Whether it soured me a bit? Yes.
“To see people were able to get away with this fraud, you think, ‘Really? This is how it works?’”
Alvarez reciprocated when asked if things were still personal with Golovkin.
“Yeah. He talks a lot of s***. He said a lot of things, but we’re gonna see.”
For now, though, Alvarez has to get past Bivol first.
