Canelo Alvarez tipped to beat Badou Jack at talks roll on for end-of-year boxing clash
As the sweepstakes continue to roll to find a next opponent for world champion, Canelo Alvarez – the Mexican has been tipped to handily take out WBC cruiserweight titleholder, Badou Jack – as he also finds himself linked with a matchup against Jermall Charlo.
Canelo, the current WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF, super middleweight champion, extended his winning run to two straight fights back in May on home soil, returning to his native Mexico in a one-sided unanimous decision win over British challenger, John Ryder.
The victory came off the back of a trilogy win over Kazakhstan veteran and former champion, Gennady Golovkin – defeating his arch-rival in a decision victory back in September of last year.
Rebounding to the winner’s enclosure with the unanimous judging triumph, Canelo had dropped just his second career loss in a move to the light heavyweight limit again, suffering a decision loss to Bulgarian champion, Dmitry Bivol for WBA gold in the division.
As for Stockholm-born veteran, Jack, the storied world champion minted himself as the WBC cruiserweight gold holder back in February in Saudi Arabia, defeating Ilunga Makabu with a final round TKO win at the Diriyah Arena.
And according to multiple reports this week, as well as a matchup with the aforenoted, Charlo, Canelo has been linked with a cuiserweight title fight against Jack – with many fans and pundits tipping the Jalisco fan-favorite to defeat the latter.
A host of markets are currently offering odds on fights until the end of the year, over combat sports including boxing, mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and Muay Thai – with live events and in-play betting also available almost nation and worldwide.
Attempting to land a whopping sixtieth professional victory in his return to the squared circle, Canelo’s sole professional losses came against the aforenoted Bivol, as well as a September 2013 loss to former multiple weight world champion, Floyd Mayweather.
Over the course of his massively gold laden career, Canelo has defeated names such as Miguel Vasquez, Jose Cotto, Carlos Baldomir, Lovemore N’dou, Kermit Cintron, Shane Mosley, Josesito Lopez, Austin Trout, Erislandy Lara, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, Liam Smith, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Gennady Golovkin, Daniel Jacobs, Sergey Kovalev, Callum Smith, Avni Yildirim, Billy Joe Saunders, And Caleb Plant to name a few.
A well-travelled veteran, Jack, with roots to Gambia, previously clinched super middleweight gold under the scrutiny of the WBC back in 2015, taking a majority decision victory over Anthony Dirrell in Chicago, Illinois.
Beyond losses to Derek Edwards, Marcus Browne, and Jean Pascal, Jack, 39, has defeated Francisco Sierra, George Groves, Lucian Bute, and Hany Atiyo to name a few.
If pitted with Jermall Charlo – the twin brother of fellow boxing great, Jermell Charlo – Canelo is faced with handing the WBC middleweight champion his first professional loss over the course of a 32 fight career.
Amongst his wins, Charlo has defeated names such as Austin Trout, Matt Korobov, Brandon Adams, Dennis Hogan, and Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Last time out, Charlo retained his WBC gold with a unanimous decision win over Juan Macias Montiel in June 2021 in Houston, Texas.
