Canelo Alvarez Won’t Allow DAZN To Delay His Fights Anymore
Canelo Alvarez won’t allow DAZN to delay his fights moving forward. The boxing community was rather humiliated when DAZN announced they wouldn’t start the Canelo Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev fight earlier this month until the UFC 244 pay-per-view (PPV) – headlined by Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz for the Baddest Mother F*cker Championship – concluded.
In fact, the delay resulted in an over hour delay between the boxing show’s co-main event, and the main event. The venue actually called UFC president Dana White to see if they could get his permission to show the UFC 244 fight between Masvidal and Diaz to their waiting crowd as they waited for Alvarez vs. Kovalev to begin. White agreed.
Speaking to ESPN Deportes, Alvarez didn’t sound too happy with the move and noted he won’t allow the streaming service, who he signed a record multi-fight deal with last year, to do that again. (H/T Boxing Scene)
“I will not allow them to do that, at least for my fights. I will talk to them [DAZN], ” Canelo said.
Given that Alvarez and Masvidal, who defeated Diaz due to a third-round Doctor Stoppage, had their names linked that night, “Gamebred” took the opportunity to call the Mexican boxing star out, saying he wanted to “destroy” Alvarez. However, responding to Masvidal’s comments, Alvarez sounds to have virtually no interest in that fight.
What do you think about Alvarez refusing to allow DAZN to delay his fights moving forward?
