Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez isn’t bothered by critics of his super-middleweight match-up with Avni Yildirim which takes place this Saturday in Miami.

The Mexican superstar will look to defend his WBC, WBA Super, and Ring Magazine titles. Yildirim will be looking to spring a huge upset.

Canelo is a huge 1/50 favourite to retain his titles. Many why the pound-for-pound number one is choosing to fight Yildirim who is coming off a loss. The Turkish fighter fell to a technical decision defeat against former champion Anthony Dirrell more than two years ago.

Before that, Yildirim picked up five straight wins following a third round knockout loss to Chris Eubank Jr.

In an interview with BoxingScene.com, Alvarez revealed he no longer listens to the critics who he believes will never be happy with what he does.

“I don’t have to give any explanation [for fighting Yildirim],” Alvarez said. “I really don’t have to give any explanation because they’re never gonna be happy with anything. I just fought number one at 168 pounds [Smith], and they’re not happy with that, either. So, I have nothing to say and nothing to explain. I don’t care.”

“I see a strong fighter,” Canelo added about Yildirim. “I see a fighter that goes forward, obviously. He has lots of courage. He can be dangerous at any moment because he is a strong fighter. There’s no doubt that I am a fighter that has more qualities, obviously. But in boxing, you must always, always be aware.”

Do you think Saul Canelo Alvarez should be fighting Anvi Yildirim?
