Charles Martin Hoping To Correct Anthony Joshua Defeat Before Retirement
Charles Martin is hoping to run things back with Anthony Joshua.
Martin lost his IBF heavyweight title to Joshua when they collided back in 2016 in a fight that lasted just two rounds as the American was knocked out early.
Since then, Martin has won five of his next six and is currently on a three-fight winning streak having most recently TKO’d Gerald Washington last year.
And he believes Joshua never fought the real version of him which is why he is hoping to get another crack at the current unified heavyweight champion.
“Joshua never fought the real me,” Martin told Sky Sports. “Taking that fight when I was hurt and unprepared is the biggest mistake of my life, but it’s a mistake I’m gonna correct before I retire.”
Martin is hoping to get that ticket to Joshua by fighting Dillian Whyte — someone he labels as an easy fight.
“It’s the only reason I’m still fighting,” Martin added. “Knocking out Dillian Whyte would put me one step closer to Joshua.
“Fury vs Wilder III is happening and then maybe a couple of fights between that winner and Joshua, so while I’m waiting I want to fight the best available, and I want to welcome Dillian Whyte to the United States with another knockout loss. Whyte is an easy fight. He takes too many clean punches.”
