Chris Eubank Jr. Explains Decision To Hire New Trainer
Chris Eubank Jr. has a new trainer as he hired Johnathon Banks.
Eubank Jr. had been searching for a new trainer and he decided to hire Banks, in a decision he felt was necessary. He says he and Banks see eye-to-eye with boxing and it was a move that made sense.
“I like Johnathon Banks’ philosophy, his mind set, and his teaching. I like everything that he says and the things that he does in training. He also trained GGG for this exact opponent. He’s got the ingredients and the knowhow how to beat this man,” Eubank Jr. said to BoxingScene.
Banks has worked with the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Gennady Golovkin, and Badou Jack among others. The experience he brings is one that Eubank Jr. likes.
Eubank Jr. will have Banks in his corner for his bout on Saturday against Kamil Szeremeta.
“It took me extra time to get back,” he said. “I’ve been off for a year but I’m here I’m fully focused, I’m fit and I’ve still got a couple of pounds to lose for this fight. We’re ready to go.”
Against Szeremeta, Eubank Jr. knows he has to make a statement and he believes Banks will help him achieve that.
“This is the most important fight of my career,” Eubank Jr told DAZN during Tuesday’s Grand Arrivals ceremony. “Because a flat performance or, God forbid, a defeat means I don’t get all the mega fights I’ve been hunting for and talking about for so long. So I have to go out there and make a statement, I have to perform, I have to take this guy out. That is the mission at hand and so Szeremeta has to go”
Chris Eubank Jr. is 33-3 as a pro and coming off a TKO win over Liam Smith back in September 2023. He has notable wins over Liam Williams, Avni Yildirim, and Renold Quinlan among others.
