Chris Eubank Jr. Says He’s Not Close To Thinking About Retirement
Chris Eubank Jr. isn’t thinking about when he will hang up his gloves.
Although Eubank Jr. is only 33-years-old, his father retired at 32 so many were wondering if he would retire young like his dad. Yet, as he is likely to face Liam Smith on Jan. 21 at AO Arena in Manchester, he says he has no plans to retire anytime soon.
“Yes, I’m 33, and I’m not 34 until September next year, and I’ve got a whole lot left in the tank,” Eubank Jr. told Sky Sports. “I see myself fighting at the highest levels for another three, four, five years, minimum. My father, he retired at 32, which is crazy to think, because I remember being 32 last year and how much energy I had then and how much energy I have now. It’s just retirement is so far out of my thought process.”
Not only is Chris Eubank Jr. not thinking about retiring, but he also thinks he can fight for several more years. Eubank Jr. says he doesn’t drink or do anything like that, and lives a clean life. With that, he believes his body feels younger than it is which is why he will be able to fight longer.
“I’ve lived the life,” Eubank Jr. said. “I’m clean, I don’t drink, I don’t do drugs, I party here and there, but in general I live a great and healthy lifestyle. I’m responsible and I don’t blow up in weight, which means I’m gonna be able to go on and fight, I think, until I’m at least 38, 39, maybe even 40.”
Chris Eubank Jr. is 32-2 and riding a six-fight winning streak but was supposed to face Conor Benn earlier this year. Yet, Benn tested positive for a banned substance and the fight was off. In his career, Eubank Jr. holds notable wins over James DeGale, Avini Yildirim, Nick Blackwell, and Renold Quinlan among others.
