Claressa Shields Confirms September Return, Still Wants Amanda Nunes Bout

Claressa Shields (10-0, 2 KO) has confirmed that her next bout will take place in September against IBF super welterweight champion Marie-Eve Dicare (17-0). Shields announced the news while appearing on the Last Stand Podcast with Brain Custer.

“My next fight is against definitely against Marie-Eve Dicare, IBF World Champion from Canada. She’s 17-0, we’re going to be fighting mid-September, last week of September. We’re just waiting for Showtime to give us the date and location,’ Shields said.

The matchup will be a unification bout with Shields currently holding the WBC and WBO super welterweight titles. She captured the vacant titles against Ivana Habazin on January 10, which on top of her belts at super middle and middleweight, make her a three-division champion.

The 25-year-old went on to say that provided she gets past Dicare; she is open to facing either Hanna Gabriels, who she has defeated in the past or Raquel Miller. However, she wants to see her fellow fighters making a case for a title shot, rather than simply calling for one.

” I would love to fight the winner out of Hanna Gabriels and Raquel Miller if they have enough heart to fight each other because it seems like everybody just want to go at the champ, but no one actually wants to earn their stripes. ” Shields exclaimed.

“I fought against Hanna Gabriels, Christia Hammer, I fought against Tori Nelson, I fought against Franchón Crews-Dezurn, some heavy-hitters to get to where I’m at.

” So for girls who only fight against girls who aren’t that good…girls with losing records, I would say… why should you get a world shot at me when I had to fight through hell and fire to get these world titles?”

The Michigan-native has still not given up her dream of facing off against UFC women’s featherweight and bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes, though at this stage, Nunes has shown no interest in stepping into the ring with Shields.

” Yeah, I definitely see myself getting into the Octagon, but not for the reasons that I want to fight in the Octagon. I want to be known as the best women fighter event. Being the greatest women of all time in boxing is cool, but I hate for people to say that Amanda Nunes fight better than me.”
