Claressa Shields Vows To ‘Whoop’ Jake Paul
Undisputed middleweight boxing champion Claressa Shields has warned YouTube star turned fighter Jake Paul to stay in his lane and avoid facing real boxers.
Paul has transitioned to boxing in 2020 and improved his record to 2-0 on the undercard of Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr and scored a highlight-reel knockout win over former NBA player Nate Robinson in the pay-per-view co-main event.
Post-fight the internet celebrity called out former dual weight UFC champion Conor McGregor who is set to take on Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 on January 23. Find the best UFC bookmakers here and bet on that event to win big by following our UFC pay-per-view picks.
Shields advised Paul to continue calling out non-pro boxers or risk getting hurt against a real fighter, she said.
“I Claressa Shields will whoop Jake Paul’s ass! He can come in the ring weighing 180 pounds and I will come weighing 168 and I will beat the s**t out of him! Jake Paul is making his money, he’s doing his thing, but stay away from us real fighters.”
Sheilds preempted people dismissing her chances against Paul because she is a woman.
“And anybody out there that say ‘Oh, Jake Paul will destroy her because she’s a woman’, … I’m the greatest woman! So, no, Jake Paul won’t do nothing with me and if he think he can, he can come see me,” Shields said. “I’ve been boxing for 14 years, 2 Olympics but they would still give Jake Paul the nod because he’s a man. And it’s like, you guys don’t know nothing!”
Shields recently made the transition to MMA after making headlines with her move to the Professional Fighters League (PFL) late last month.
To further emphasize how serious she is taking up her new sport, Shields is training with one of the top gyms in the world in Jackson Wink. The likes of Holly Holm, Michelle Waterson, and Jones notably train there as the latter is working alongside Shields as she prepares for her eventual debut.
