Conor McGregor Will Still Fight Manny Pacquiao In 2021
Conor McGregor is still set to cross over into boxing for a second time to take on eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao according to Auddie Attar of Paradigm who represents both fighters.
Both men have been talking up a potential fight for some time now. However, McGregor has just signed on to face Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 on January 23, delaying a potential fight with the Filipino boxing legend.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Attar insisted that McGregor will still take on Pacquiao next year, once he has dealt with ‘The Diamond’, he said.
“As it relates to Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor, Conor has a fight on January 23 against Dustin Poirier.”
“He will be handling business against Dustin first. But, Conor has come out and said he wants to fight Manny, Manny has come out and said he wants to fight Conor. As I stated publicly before, we have had conversations. So, that is a fight we are definitely going to make because both fighters want it and there seems to be an interest from the fans all around the world.” (Transcribed by Boxing Scene)
McGregor was last seen in action earlier this year when he needed just 40 seconds to dispatch of MMA veteran Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 246. To date the Irishman has fought just once in professional boxing – suffering a tenth round TKO loss to Floyd Mayweather in 2017.
Pacquiao has not fought since July 2019 when he defeated Keith Thurman by split decision. He won the WBA (super) welterweight title in the victory and extended his winning streak to three after he also beat Adrien Broner and Lucas Matthysse. He was recently called out by Terence Crawford who is quickly becoming one of the best fighters in boxing.
