Cristiano Ronaldo Makes Surprising Defence Of Andy Ruiz Jr’s Body
Cristiano Ronaldo is a big combat sports fan and has defended Andy Ruiz Jr. over his body.
Ruiz Jr., of course, stunned Anthony Joshua in June of 2019 as he knocked the Brit out. However, in the rematch, he appeared to show up overweight and lost a clear-cut decision. For Ronaldo, he doesn’t understand why people make fun of him for his body.
“That’s what I was talking about with my friends, because they made fun of him and told me to look at Ruiz’s fat body,” Ronaldo said on DAZN to GGG (via sportbible). “I would tell them, ‘Listen, the body doesn’t matter. What matters is preparation.'”
Andy Ruiz Jr. has not fought since he lost to Joshua in December of 2019. He has also not been booked in a fight and who he will fight next is uncertain. However, some hinted at a matchup with Deontay Wilder, but regardless, Ruiz Jr. is much more interested in getting in better shape as it is reported he will work with Canelo Alvarez‘s trainer.
“We’re talking with Canelo’s team; I think that would be a good one for me to join if we go that way,” Ruiz said on Instagram Live (via ESPN). “Right now there hasn’t been any contact, but I would like to go over there with Canelo.”
Eddy Reynoso, meanwhile, would also be interested in making that happen.
“We’re ready to work with any fighter,” Reynoso said. “It would also be an honor to work with the first heavyweight champion of Mexican descent.”
Whether or not that will happen is uncertain. Regardless, Andy Ruiz Jr. just needs to get back in the ring and prove to everyone he is still a legit heavyweight contender.
