Daniel Jacobs Thinks Canelo Alvarez Is Ducking David Benavidez
Daniel Jacobs believes Canelo Alvarez is ducking David Benavidez and is afraid of taking that fight.
Jacobs and Alvarez fought back in 2019 and it was the Mexican who won by decision. Given that Jacobs is familiar with Alvarez, he thinks the fight with Benavidez would be a highly anticipated fight, he doesn’t think Alvarez wants to take it.
“I do think he is ducking him [Benavidez],” Jacobs said in an interview with BoxingScene. “Cos, he looks at the pros and cons, and you look at what Benavidez has over Canelo, speed, power, athleticism, and in his mind, Benavidez is beating him and, in his mind, he probably knows that as well.
“I wish every fighter the best of luck, I’m not sure which kind of fight they want to take so I can come into that. May the best fighter win. I don’t know how it plays out cos both fighters are good. Obviously, Canelo is a Hall of Famer, so I’m sure he will be the favorite but I will say that may the best fighter win.”
Alvarez has said he wants a hefty amount to take the fight with Benavidez, so it doesn’t seem likely the bout will happen anytime soon, which is disappointing.
David Benavidez appears to be the toughest test for Canelo Alvarez, but Daniel Jacobs doubts it will happen.
As for Daniel Jacobs, he returned to the ring for the first time since February 2022 on Saturday and he dropped a decision to Shane Mosley Jr. in Anaheim. Jacobs is now 37-5 as a pro and before the loss to Mosley Jr., he suffered a split decision loss to John Ryder.
