David Benavidez Confident He Will Get Canelo Alvarez Fight
David Benavidez is confident he will eventually secure a fight with Canelo Alvarez.
Benavidez is set to face Oleksandr Gvozdyk in the co-main event of Saturday’s show and alongside Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin. If he wins, he will get the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol. Although he is focused on that fight, Benavidez still believes he will face Alvarez.
“I really believe in my heart it’s going to happen,” Benavidez said of the proposed showdown with unified 168-pound champion Alvarez. “When? I don’t know, but we’re 100 percent ready to get that fight and get that victory as well. I’m ready to fight whoever and beat whoever.”
Benavidez enters the fight as the betting favorite and he has confidence he will get his hand raised. Not only does Benavidez think he will win, but he expects he will KO Gvozdyk to show he is ready for a big-time fight next time out.
“I worked extremely hard [in camp] and we’re going for the knockout this Saturday,” Benavidez said. “My plan is just to conquer the light heavyweight weight class and the super middleweight weight class. Whoever comes, they can get it. I just have a lot to prove to myself and to the world. I really do want to be the best of my generation, and until I make that happen I’m going to keep working hard.”
David Benavidez enters the bout with a record of 28-0 and is coming off a win over Demetrius Andrade. Before that, he scored a decision win over Caleb Plant. Benavidez also holds notable wins over David Lemieux, J’Leon Love, Anthony Dirrell, and Ro
