David Benavidez Believes Canelo vs. Saunders Could Go Either Way
David Benavidez believes Billy Joe Saunders has what it takes to defeat boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez.
Alvarez has only lost once in his fifty-seven professional fights, after a decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. back in 2013.
With this highly hyped fight with Saunders looking to take place this May, predictions are rolling in.
“Honestly, I feel like that fight is 50/50,” Benavidez said.
“Saunders is another great champion. I respect Saunders as well. He’s a tricky fighter. He’s not gonna be easy to get to, and he’s gonna make Canelo work for it.”
Until this fight can happen, Canelo will have to defeat his next opponent, Turkey’s Avni Yildirim, the WBC mandatory challenger.
Benavidez believes Canelo will not have any trouble defeating Yildirim and moving on to the Saunders fight.
“At the end of the day, we’re fighters and I don’t know what that man is going through or what his motivation is,” Benavidez said.
“Anything can happen, but I feel like Canelo will beat him pretty easy. I expect Canelo to go right through Yildirim.”
Saunders is praised for his boxing IQ and Canelo hasn’t faced a left-handed opponent for over five-years.
That being said, there’s a reason Canelo is commonly known as the best boxer in the world right now.
His preparation for any opponent is something he never seems to struggle with, as his resume of strong opponents speaks for itself.
Do you think David Benavidez’ prediction on this matchup is correct? Is it a 50/50 fight?
