David Price, 38, confirms retirement from boxing
David Price has announced his retirement from boxing.
Price is the former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion and hasn’t fought since October of 2019 where he was TKO’d by Derek Chisora. Now, after rumors he will retire, Price confirmed he is hanging up his gloves.
“Well I haven’t officially announced that I’ve retired, but I have. I’m not going to be fighting again. You won’t see me in a boxing ring again, for a fight at least,” Price said to BT Sport (via SkySports). “That was only officially made up in my mind about six weeks ago.”
When asked why he decided to retire, Price had a few reasons. His age and activity played a big role in the fight.
“A few factors came into it. I obviously haven’t fought for two years, so totally inactive. Age, 38,” Price said. “The hunger was no longer there. That’s massive, which is why your elite fighters like Tyson, like Canelo, like AJ, they have got as much money as they will ever need. But that hunger is still there. That’s because they are fighting for glory. The glory had gone in my career.”
David Price retired with a record of 25-6 and one No Contest. As mentioned, in his last fight, he suffered a TKO loss to Chisora. Before that, he was on a three-fight winning streak as he beat David Allen, Kash Ali, and Tom Little. In his career, he has fought against the likes of Tony Thompson, Christian Hammer, and Alexander Povetkin.
