Gervonta Davis Calls For Bout With Devin Haney Next
Devin Haney just defended his WBC Lightweight Championship this past weekend against Yuriorkis Gamboa, who he defeated via unanimous decision over the coarse of twelve rounds.
This got the attention of WBA two-division world champion Gervonta Davis, who also fought Gamboa in the past. Gamboa was Davis’ last fight before he fought Leo Santa Cruz, and he defeated him via TKO at 1:17 of the twelfth and final round.
Davis had some remarks about Haney’s performance against Gamboa, and tweeted the following in regard to his performance:
“My daughter hit harder than ole boy wtf”
“Hold up and ole boy posting me…just know I made more money than you last night and the other two people that fought the other night. All put together….CLOWNS”
Davis improved his record to 24-0 with 23 knockouts with his victory over Santa Cruz on Halloween, and Haney improved his record to 25-0 with 15 knockouts with his win over Gamboa on November 7.
Davis also went 206-15 as an amateur, while Haney went 138-8 as an amateur, both winning numerous titles before turning professional.
This would be an absolutely epic fight, they’re both so good at what they do. No one’s been able to evade from Davis’ power, and no one’s been able to out-box Haney.
The 130 lb to 135 lb division is extremely stacked right now in boxing. There are all sorts of names any one of these guys could face next. There’s these two, Vasyl Lomachenko, Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia, Miguel Berchelt, there’s a ton of ’em.
This fight between Davis and Haney could take place as early as spring of 2021, which would be awesome to see. It’d be great to see both of these talents get right back in there and continue adding to their resumes.
Do you think we’ll get Gervonta Davis versus Devin Haney next?
