Demetrius Andrade Says If Jermall Charlo Fight Doesn’t Happen He Wants Plant-Benavidez Winner
Demetrius Andrade is hoping to face Jermall Charlo next but has a plan B if it doesn’t come to fruition.
Andrade recently signed with PBC and was vocal in saying he wants Charlo next. However, Andrade has also said he will remain at 168lbs and won’t move back down 160lbs, which could put the Charlo fight in question. If it doesn’t, Andrade has his eyes on the winner of David Benavidez vs. Caleb Plant.
“If that fight doesn’t happen right away, what’s the next best [fight]?,” Andrade asked during an interview with BoxingScene.com. “[The winner of] Plant versus Benavidez. That’s a great fight.”
Plant and Benavidez have agreed to fight each other next, but contracts have yet to be sent out, as well as no official date. But, all signs point to that fight happening next, Andrade knows it will be a very competitive fight but does think Plant will edge it.
“I think Caleb Plant has a very good chance of winning that fight,” Andrade said. “I don’t see this being a one-sided fight. I don’t know why people think this is what it’s gonna be. Yes, David Benavidez can fight. But is he the best? Is he the most skillful fighter? No. So, you have a skillful guy who knows how to fight, who maybe don’t have the most power. But we’re gonna get a good clash. This is gonna be an entertaining fight, I believe. I believe Caleb Plant definitely has the ring generalship to kinda pull rounds off and be safe if he needs to, because David is more of an inside fighter.”
Demetrius Andrade (31-0) is coming off a second-round TKO win over Jason Quigley to remain the WBO middleweight champion. In his career, he holds notable wins over Liam Williams, Luke Keeler, and Artur Akavov.
