Deontay Wilder opens as betting favorite to beat Joseph Parker in December boxing fight in Saudi Arabia
Slated to co-headline a massive Riyadh Season event in an end-of-year showcase, former WBC heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder has opened as a significant betting favorite to beat New Zealander, Joseph Parker in the pair’s heavyweight title-eliminator.
Wilder, a former undisputed WBC heavyweight champion, has been sidelined since he featured in Brooklyn, New York in October of last year, landing a blistering opening round knockout win over Robert Helenius in his return to the squared circle.
As for Auckland native, Parker, the 33-3 puncher managed to mint himself as the IBF and WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight champion last month in Riyadh, stopping Simon Kean with a massive third round knockout win in Saudi Arabia.
And booking his return to professional boxing on December 23. later this year, Tuscaloosa native, Wilder has opened as a decent -590 betting favorite to beat Parker, who is sat as a +500 betting underdog as the pair co-headline a blockbuster card.
A host of bookies and markets are already offering odds on Wilder’s return against Oceania star, Parker, including trusted and safe Australian casino sites, who are offering outright winning bets as well as prop wagers.
Prior to his kncokout win over Finnish heavyweight, Helenius late last year in the United States, Wilder had been sidelined since high-profile knockout losses to incumbent WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury in the pair’s rematch and subsequent trilogy fights in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A formidable striker and power-puncher, Wilder, who boasts a 42-2-1 professional record, landed the WBC heavyweight crown back in 2015 with a unanimous decision win over Bermane Stiverne. Wilder would go on to land nine consecutive successful defenses of the undisputed WBC heavyweight championship, including a rematch win over Stiverne, and other triumphs against the likes of Luis Ortiz, Dominic Breazeale, Eric Molina, and Chris Arreola.
Suffering just three professional losses, Parker’s trio of defeats came agaisnt British opposition, in the form of losses opposite Anthony Joshua, Dillian Whyte, and most recently, Joe Joyce.
A former WBO heavyweight champion, back in 2016, Parker landed a majority decision win over veteran Mexican puncher, Andy Ruiz Jr. In other notable professional triumphs, Parker has defeated the likes of Francois Botha, Carlos Takam, Hughie Fury, and twice, Derek Chisora.
Also featured on that blockbuster Day of Reckoning card, a heavyweight headliner between former two-time world champion, Anthony Joshua, and Otto Wallin, while light heavyweight kinping, Dmitry Bivol makes his first professional boxing walk of the year, taking on Lyndon Arthur in his return to the squared circle.
Also on the massive card as part of the Riyadh Season in the Middle East, heavyweight talents, Filip Hrgovic, and Daniel Dubios both feature in altering bouts, in what comes as a massive close to the year for professional boxing.
In February of next year, also in Saudi Arabia, undisputed WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury headlines a card in a title unification clash with fellow undisputed gold holder, Oleksandr Usyk. Fury most recently featured last month in a close and hugely-contentious split decision win over sport debutante and former UFC champion, Francis Ngannou.
