Deontay Wilder urged to consider retirement by Tyson Fury
Heavyweight boxing legend Tyson Fury has revealed that he’d like to see rival Deontay Wilder consider retiring from professional boxing.
Throughout the course of his illustrious career, Deontay Wilder has made a name for himself as a true knockout artist. From his first few years in the sport all the way up to his days as a world champion, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ always knew how to put on exciting fights for the fans.
In truth, that was never more evident than during his three-fight series with Tyson Fury. While he was never able to get his hand raised against ‘The Gypsy King’, the two always produced incredible entertainment together – and Deontay Wilder played a huge role in making that happen.
However, in the wake of defeats to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, many are wondering whether or not the 39-year-old should consider hanging up his gloves for good. In a recent podcast appearance, Tyson Fury acknowledged that it’s something Deontay should think about.
Tyson Fury questions Deontay Wilder’s future
“I’d like to see poor old Deontay retire from boxing,” said the 36-year-old.
“Obviously he lost the three fights to me. We took a lot of years off of each other’s lives.
“That war that ended in the 11th round by knockout, that takes a lot out your tank and you don’t recover from fights like that. Between me and Wilder in our trilogy there were ten knockdowns. It takes a lot out of a fighter. Even when he’s come back and had a couple of fights since against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, he’s only a shadow of his former glory.
“The only thing left of Deontay is his name. And that’s it. So I’d like to see him retire for sure before he does damage to himself.”

This won’t be the first time Deontay Wilder has heard something like this. Still, when you’re a warrior like he is, it’s tough to know when to walk away.
