Deontay Wilder reportedly set to return to the ring in 2025

Deontay Wilder

Former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is reportedly set to make his return to the boxing ring for a professional bout in 2025.

Deontay Wilder, 39, is considered to be one of the greatest power punchers in the history of the sport. Some would consider that to be a bit of an exaggeration, when it reality, we may well be underselling it ever so slightly.

When it comes to having one-punch knockout power, Deontay Wilder can be put up against anyone in the history of boxing. No, he isn’t the most technical fighter the world has ever seen, but he has achieved some truly incredible things throughout the course of his career.

Now, as per recent reports, he is set to test himself once again by trying to make a comeback.

Deontay Wilder looks to the future

“I’m told @BronzeBomber will return for a comeback fight in April on BLK Prime. Wilder and manager Shelley Finkel will meet with the media in Los Angeles on Saturday to announce the opponent.”

Following on from losses to Zhilei Zhang and Joseph Parker, there are plenty of reasons to question the future of Deontay Wilder. Yes, he can knock out just about anyone on his day, but those two defeats – alongside his losses to Tyson Fury – really exposed some glaring holes that need to be fixed.

Alas, as he approaches his 40th birthday, you have to wonder how badly he still wants it. Yes, he’s going to receive a handsome sum when he does compete, but is it really worth it?

Hopefully, we can see Deontay Wilder turn back the clock and prove to us all why he still deserves to be in the ‘elite’ conversation at heavyweight. Who knows, maybe he’ll set himself up for that long-awaited showdown with Anthony Joshua that we’ve all been eager to see.
