Deontay Wilder Says Zhilei Zhang Fight Will See If He ‘still got it or not’
Deontay Wilder says he lost his passion and hunger for boxing but has rediscovered it ahead of his return bout against Zhilei Zhang.
Wilder is set to box Zhang on June 1 as part of the Matchroom vs. Queensberry Promotions 5v5 event. It’s a highly-anticipated bout, and going into the fight, Wilder is looking to return to the win column after an upset loss to Joseph Parker.
Going into the fight, Deontay Wilder says going into the bout against Zhang, it will prove if he has it or not.
“I feel good,” Wilder said. “No one thought me and Eddie would work together, so this is the ultimate surprise right here.. I respect Zhang, he’s a good fighter, but it’s my time. I’m breaking it down and come the night of the fight we will see if I’ve still got it or not. I’m seeing this as my last stand…”
Deontay Wilder is a +180 underdog against Zhilei Zhang, as the oddsmakers expect the Chinese fighter to get the win. But, Wilder has confidence he will get the job done and prove he is still a top-ranked heavyweight and his career isn’t over as some think.
Wilder enters the bout with a record of 43-3-1 after losing a decision to Joseph Parker in December by decision. Before that, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ scored a KO win over Robert Helenius after back-to-back losses to Tyson Fury.
