Derek Chisora Looking At Fights Past Joe Joyce

Derek Chisora

Derek Chisora is already looking past Joe Joyce as he knows a win gets him back into the title picture at heavyweight.

Chisora and Joyce are set to box on Saturday in a pivotal fight for the heavyweight division. Chisora is set for his 48th fight on Saturday against Joyce, and Chisora says he wants to get to 50 career fights, which is why he’s looking past Joyce.

“I’m gonna have 50 fights,” Chisora told BoxingScene when asked about why he remains active. “That’s what I wanna have and I’m out. God told me 50 fights. I was playing [when I mentioned God] – 50 always comes up to my head. I always wanted to have 50 fights – from the moment I turned pro, and I like that. Entertainment, man. Entertainment [is why I fight on].  I love training, bro. I love training. [When our fight was announced Joyce] said he’s going to start his training camp – I train every day.”

Chisora is coming off a decision win over Gerald Washington to return to the win column after a stoppage loss to Tyson Fury. Joyce is a -475 favorite to win on Saturday and he has confidence he will get past Chisora, and if he does, Frank Warren believes it will result in Joyce getting a big fight next time out.

“What’s next for Joe depends on the outcome of this fight,” Warren told ESPN. “I thought Derek Chisora should have retired a few years ago but he’s back, and because of their age, the loser of this fight goes to the bottom of the pile. If Joe gets beat by Derek, I don’t know where he goes. But Joe doesn’t have miles on the clock like Derek. Joe suffered a bad injury against Zhang in their first fight, but then suffered an emphatic knockout in the second fight and he needs a good win.

Remember, Joe beat Joseph Parker in September 2022, and look where Parker is now after beating Deontay Wilder and Zhang. The way this heavyweight division is right now, you can turn your career around in a couple of fights.”

Chisora is 34-13 and has notable wins over Kubrat Pulev, David Price, Artur Szpilka, and Kevin Johnson among others.
