Derek Chisora Open To Dillian Whyte Trilogy After Win Over Joe Joyce
Derek Chisora is open to the idea of having a trilogy with Dillian Whyte after his decision win over Joe Joyce.
Chisora picked up the upset win over Joyce on the weekend, in a fight he couldn’t get Joyce out of there. It was a surprise performance from Chisora, and he joked that Joyce was more durable than he thought he would be.
“I knew he was tough but Jesus Christ that guy is tough,” joked Chisora. “I was tired and I had to dig deep because I haven’t boxed for a year. You have to understand when you train and you spar, and then when you fight it’s totally different. I haven’t been in the ring for a year and everything else started getting harder, but I just had to bite on my gumshield and dig deep, it was hard. I had to win the first five rounds because I knew I’d get two of the next five and I’d win then. That was the whole point, start fast and go with it – we had to win the first five rounds.”
Entering the fight, there were rumors of Chisora potentially retiring, but he says that isn’t the case. Instead, Derek Chisota says he has a couple of more fights left in him and is open to having his trilogy with Whyte as long as he’s clean.
“I will have a rematch with Dillian [Whyte] as long as he’s clean 100 percent,” said Chisora. “There is no point in fighting someone who is not clean, but if he wants a rematch, I’ll give it him.”
The two fought in 2016 for the first time and it was Whyte who won a split decision. In 2018, in the rematch, Whyte scored a KO win, so Chisora is looking to get back into the win column.
