Derek Chisora Praises The Ref For Stopping The Fight, Has No Plans To Retire

Derek Chisora will continue to box following his stoppage loss to Tyson Fury on Saturday.

Chisora was facing Fury for the third time on Saturday as he was looking to become the heavyweight champ. Yet, from the get-go it was clear that Fury was the better boxer and was putting it on Chisora en route to a 10th-round stoppage and Chisora agreed with the stoppage.

“The ref was right, I was not doing much. Fighters never want to stop but that’s why the refs are there, because we have to go home to our kids,” Chisora said. “It was fun, I did enjoy it. I’m not retiring yet. f— that sh!t. I want to go on the road now for more fights.”

Although Chisora said he won’t retire, Fury believes the longtime heavyweight contender should hang up his gloves. He is now 38-years-old and turned 39 later this month and likely won’t fight for the title again. However, Fury says the decision is ultimately up to Chisora.

“I can’t speak for any other man, I can’t make decisions for him. Derek will have to make his own decisions, but he’s been in this game long enough and he will make the best decisions for him and his family,” Fury said. For me, I’d love to see him retire but still stay in the sport because he’s a legend in British boxing, he’s like a folk hero.”

With the loss to Fury, Derek Chisora dropped to 33-13 and is now 1-4 in his last five fights. In the fight before the loss to Fury, he scored a split decision win over Kubrat Pulev after losing to Joseph Parker in back-to-back fights – both by decision – and dropped a decision to Oleksandr Usyk.

With Chisora likely not retiring, it’s uncertain who and when he will fight again.
