Devin Haney Says Davis & Lomachenko Are The Fights That Interest Him In The Most
Devin Haney has two names in mind for his next fight as he looks to remain the undisputed lightweight champion.
Haney beat George Kambosos Jr. by decision in a rather one-sided fight and although Kambosos Jr. has a rematch clause, it’s uncertain if he will trigger it. If he doesn’t, Haney says the two guys he would like to box next are Vasyl Lomachenko and Tank Davis.
“The two I’d be interested in is Loma and Tank,” Haney said in an interview with Tha Boxing Voice (via BoxingScene). “Those fights are the ones that interest me the most. But I’ll fight anyone. I’m a true fighter.”
Haney and Lomachenko are both under the Top Rank banner and both their fights air on ESPN so it wouldn’t be hard to make. However, Lomachenko was supposed to fight Kambosos Jr. first but he withdrew from the fight so he could defend his home country of Ukraine so it’s uncertain when he will box again.
As for Davis, he is with Showtime but the hope for many boxing fans is the network can reach an agreement to make the fight. But, Haney still admits it does come down to business and whatever happens, happens.
“Those fights interest me the most but we can’t always make those fights happen,” Haney said. “It’s still a business and I understand that. We just gotta see what my team can come up with and see what’s realistic.”
If those fights don’t happen along with Kambosos Jr. rematch, he says he could also move to 140 to pursue more options.
“If I don’t fight [Kambosos Jr.] I don’t think I’ll be fighting at 135 any longer probably,” Haney said. “But we just gotta see. If he wants the fight I’ll probably have to vacate [one of my belts] because he gave us a rematch clause so we can’t go fight another fighter at 135 if he wants to fight. We just gotta see.”
