Devin Haney Says He Demanded ‘Fair Judges’ For His Fight Against George Kambosos Jr.
Devin Haney demanded fair judges for his upcoming title fight against George Kambosos Jr.
Haney is set to go to Australia to face Kambosos Jr. to challenge for the WBA, WBO, and IBF titles at Marvel Stadium on June 5. It’s a homecoming fight for Kambosos Jr., and with that, Haney says he demanded there are no hometown judges as he wants it to be fair, yet if there are no neutral judges, he wants at least one American judge.
“Here’s how I look at it,” Haney told Cigar Talk (via Boxingscene). “Robberies happen in the US. A lot of robberies. How many robberies? It’s too many to count. Robberies happen all over no matter where the fight is. Me and my team are doing the best to make sure that there’s fair judging, neutral judges, or if it’s not neutral judges, it’s gonna be a US judge and an Australian judge. We gon’ make an even playing field. That was all I demanded. I just want fair judges. I wanted nothing else.”
According to Devin Haney, he has already given a lot to make the fight happen. According to the undefeated champ, he is obligated to give Kambosos, 28, an immediate rematch – in Australia – should Haney win on June 5 and remain at 135. The agreement also required Haney, previously a free agent, to sign a multi-bout contract with Top Rank.
With that, all Devin Haney wants is non-Australian judges as he wants the fight to be fair as possible.
“You guys can have whatever you want,” Haney said of Team Kambosos. “You guys wanted the bigger lump sum of the money, or you guys wanted to be there (home country) whatever the case may be. I just wanted fair judges, I wanted a fair playing ground and that’s all.”
Do you agree with Devin Haney wanting neutral judges?
