Devin Haney Says Him And Shakur Stevenson Are On A Collision Course, Will Fight Soon
Devin Haney is confident he and Shakur Stevenson will share the ring soon.
On Saturday night, Haney defended his lightweight titles with a controversial decision win over Vasyl Lomachenko. After the win, Stevenson entered the ring and called out Haney which Haney and his dad Bill said hasn’t been discussed
“Bob ain’t said [Stevenson’s] name,” Bill Haney said in reference to promoter Bob Arum (h/t BoxingScene). “Bob ain’t said his name. My phone ain’t ringing.”
“Yeah, Bob hasn’t said his name at all,” Devin Haney said. “But nah, listen, of course, I’ve been very vocal about that me and Shakur are on a collision course. Whether it’s at 135, whether it’s at 140, whether it’s at 147, we definitely on a collision course. And we definitely gonna get it on when the time is right.”
Although Shakur Stevenson wants Devin Haney next time out, it’s uncertain that will happen.
According to Haney, he says a potential move to 140lbs still could be next so he’s uncertain what his next fight will be.
“You know, if I can’t get those fights next or it doesn’t make sense for it to be next, I’ll probably go to 140, test it out, see how I feel at the weight, at 140,” Haney said during his press conference Saturday night. “And then, when the time is right, then I’ll defend my belts at 135. We’ll just see, though. I’ve gotta go back and talk with the team and see what makes the most sense. That’s really all it boils down to.”
Stevenson also was adamant that Lomachenko won, despite predicting Haney would win and saying he wanted that fight.
