Devin Haney Defeats Yuriorkis Gamboa By Unanimous Decision
Retaining his WBC lightweight title, Devin Haney has taken his record to 25-0, with a unanimous decision victory over Yuriorkis Gamboa. Haney implemented a simple yet effective game plan, breezing through all twelve rounds.
38-year-old Gamboa wasn’t able to find any offensive rhythm and was immediately in Haney’s world.
Once the twelve rounds wrapped up, the judges scored the fight 118-109, 120-107 and 120-107 in favour of Haney.
“Of course I wanted the knockout but he was a crafty veteran” Haney said in his post-fight interview.
The lightweight division in the boxing world is as exciting as ever right now. Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia are all eyeing each other off, with multiple potential fights to come.
“There’s a lot of big fights out there, I’m not going anywhere” Haney said. “Teofimo Lopez is the one with the rest of the belts, so that’s the main fight that I want to make happen.”
With Teofimo Lopez’s recent upset victory over Vasyl Lomachenko, it will be interesting to see who will challenge him next for the IBF, WBA (Super), WBO and The Ring lightweight titles.
