Devin Haney’s Father Says This Is The ‘Death’ Of Ryan Garcia’s Career
Bill Haney, the father of Devin Haney, says April 20 will be the death of Ryan Garcia’s boxing career.
Haney and Garcia are set to fight on April 20 in a highly-anticipated matchup. It’s a big fight for both of their careers and according to Bill Haney, he believes this will be the death of Garcia’s boxing career.
“This guy and his antics,” Haney said of Garcia at Thursday’s press conference in Los Angeles (via BoxingScene). “it’s going to be the death of Ryan Garcia as you guys know him. You brought some girls with you, but they’re gonna go with us when we leave – don’t worry about that. That was your mistake.”
Garcia did suffer his first loss by TKO last year to Gervonta Davis. So, if he loses to Haney, it would hurt his chances at becoming a world champion again.
However, Bill Haney does praise Garcia for taking the fight as not many people want to face his son.
“Ryan raised his hand [to fight Devin] when nobody else did,” Bill Haney said. “We really take Ryan Garcia serious. It’s a distraction. He’s attempting to appear as a TikToker; we know him as a 12-time amateur national champion… Fifteen. True, right? Fifteen. Excuse me, fifteen. My son’s amazing. He’s the best in the world. We gonna show ‘em on April 20.”
Even if Garcia does lose, which many expect, he still is a popular enough fighter to continue to get big fights. But, a loss to Haney would indeed hinder his future in the sport.
Devin Haney, meanwhile, is 31-0 and coming off a decision win over Regis Prograis back in December. Before that, he beat Vasyl Lomachenko after back-to-back wins over George Kambosos Jr.
