Dillian Whyte Believes Daniel Dubois vs Anthony Joshua Is 50-50
Dillian Whyte says Daniel Dubois vs Anthony Joshua is a 50-50 fight, despite the betting odds.
Joshua is a sizeable betting favorite to defeat Dubois in an intriguing matchup. Although Dubois is the underdog, Whyte believes the fight is a toss-up and says it’s a 50-50 fight.
“People say he’s the underdog, but I don’t think he’s an underdog. I think it’s an equal fight,” said Dillian Whyte to talkSport Boxing (via BoxingNews24). “It’s one of those fights where it’s a 50-50 fight.”
Whyte believes the longer the fight goes the better it is for Daniel Dubois. Whyte believes Dubois gets better as the fight goes on and his pressure could get the better of Joshua.
“Early on, dangerous for Dubois, but if he gets past three or four rounds, I think it becomes very dangerous for AJ, as we saw in the Andy Ruiz fight. He dropped him and then fell apart after. AJ doesn’t deal well with pressure late in fights,” said Whyte.
However, Whyte thinks the stage could be intimidating for Dubois, as there will be plenty of fans rooting for Joshua on Saturday at Wembley Stadium.
“When you come out in front of 95,000 people and 60,000, 70,000 are rooting for AJ [it can be intimidating]. AJ has been built for this stage and this magnitude. He’s been involved in big fights and big crowds. Daniel hasn’t. So the advantage would lean towards AJ a little bit,” said Whyte.
Daniel Dubois is 21-2 as a pro and coming off a TKO win over Filip Hrgovic and before that, he scored a TKO win over Jarrell Miller. Dubois is the current IBF heavyweight champion after being promoted to undisputed after he won the interim belt over Hrgovic.
Anthony Joshua, meanwhile, is 28-3 and riding a four-fight winning streak. He’s coming off a KO win over Francis Ngannou.
