Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin Called Off Due To Injury
Dillian Whyte will not be fighting Otto Wallin next weekend.
Whyte was forced to pull out with a shoulder injury in training, according to the Sun. The fight was supposed to happen on October 30, but Whyte, who was doing his training camp in Portugal, will no longer be able to face Wallin.
The news is no doubt disappointing, and Whyte has been told to reschedule the fight with the Swede, according to Wallin’s promoter.
“It’s very disappointing,” Wallin’s promoter Dmitriy Salita told Sky Sports. “If it is an injury, then he should heal, and they should reschedule this event. That would be the fair thing to do. It would not be fair to the sport of boxing for Dillian Whyte to have an injury, whatever it is, and as a result of that, to be able to be mandated to fight Fury. Otto is ready to go to the UK today. He had a complete training camp and this fight guarantees a lot of attention and it was truly the right eliminator for the fight with Fury.”
Wallin’s promoter also added that he plans to push the WBC this week for a decision. However, Whyte had been pushing for the Fury fight, so perhaps, that is his next fight without facing Wallin.
“The fight has to be rescheduled for a later date and the winner of that fight should fight Tyson Fury. Anything else would be unfair to the sport of boxing, and unfair to Otto Wallin. We’re definitely going to petition the WBC to make a decision. That’s what should be decided – the winner of Whyte-Wallin fights Tyson Fury,” he added. “The WBC will pass what I feel is an important decision, which should set things right.”
Dillian Whyte is coming off a TKO win over Alexander Povetkin back in March to win the WBC’s interim heavyweight title. The fight was an immediate rematch after Povetkin’s shocking upset KO win over Whyte last August. Wallin, meanwhile, has rallied off two straight wins since his loss to Tyson Fury as he looks to get the rematch.
Do you think they should reschedule Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin?
