Dmitry Bivol Uncertain Canelo Alvarez Rematch Ever Happens
Dmitry Bivol doesn’t care if he never fights Canelo Alvarez again.
Bivol upset Alvarez back in May of 2022 as he beat the Mexican by decision. It was a stunning performance and now as Bivol is set to take on Artur Beterbiev on October 12 in an intriguing matchup.
Although Bivol is focused on Beterbiev, the talk of a potential rematch with Alvarez has been in the news. But, Bivol isn’t sure it will happen, as he says he doesn’t think Alvarez wants the rematch.
“I just don’t think about it at all,” Bivol said to BoxingNews. “I have my training camp, I have Beterbiev fight and then we will see. Just talks, talks. If we need to do some fight he doesn’t need to talk with the media, he needs to talk to [promoter] Eddie Hearn… I don’t know. I have my own way, he has his own way. We could fight [when] I was available. More than one year we were waiting [for] offer but we didn’t get it. Doesn’t matter.”
Canelo Alvarez is coming off a win over Edgar Berlanga and Dmitry Bivol says it was a great performance from the Mexican.
“It was good fight,” Bivol said. “I didn’t see it [in] full to be honest because I was in my camp but I saw couple of rounds. He was good. Berlanga was bigger and his boxing kills is better of course than Berlanga.”
Dmitry Bivol (23-0) is set to take on Artur Beterbiev on October 12 in one of the biggest fights in boxing. Bivol is coming off a TKO win over Malik Zinad and before that, he scored a decision win over Lyndon Arthur. In his career, Bivol has notable wins over Jean Pascal, Craig Richards, Joe Smith Jr., and Gilberto Ramirez among others.
