EA Sports Has Greenlit A Fight Night Reboot But Game Is ‘On Pause’ For Now
EA Sports has ok’d a Fight Night reboot but the game is currently on pause, reports say.
According to videogameschronicle, Fight Night, which is currently codenamed ‘Moneyball’, has been greenlit and entered early development. Yet, the fight is still likely several years from release. This is due to EA Canada’s decision to temporarily pause its core development in order to prioritize the next EA Sports UFC game, which is planned for late next year.
VGS was able to obtain a studio-wide e-mail that says EA is focused on UFC 5. The e-mail explained that strong marketplace competition had made it challenging to staff up for Fight Night, which was intended to enter production alongside UFC, and that it did not want to split its senior creatives between two fighting game projects, the site says.
With the focus on UFC 5, Fight Night is on pause as they want to make both games as the highest quality possible.
“We’re very excited about UFC 5 and… we want to eliminate the split focus that several members of our leadership team have had over the past while so we can solely focus on delivering migration and UFC 5 at high quality,” it reads.
When VGS asked EA Sports about this, the spokesperson pointed to the company’s policy of not responding to “rumours and speculation.”
Fight Night Champion was the last game in the series coming out in 2011. It was the fifth installment on the series as it was released in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2009. The hope for many boxing fans is a new boxing game comes out soon as they have been clamoring for a new game.
