Bridges’ Pro Boxing Career
Ebanie Bridges has been a professional boxer for the last six years and has fought in high-profile events. Here is a breakdown of her fighting career thus far.
Bridges’ Early Boxing Career
Ebanie made her professional boxing debut on February 8th, 2019 against opponent Mahiecka Pareno. She won her debut by decision and followed her first win up by fighting two more times in 2019.
Her last two fights of the year were wins by TKO in the third and second rounds. Those two TKO wins were followed by two decision wins to boost Ebanie’s record to 5-0.
Bridges’ fifth win over Carol Earl won her the vacant ANBF Australian Female Super-Bantamweight title. The very first pro boxing title of her career.
By this time, Bridges was becoming a rising boxing star within her native Australia.
Ebanie’s First World Title Shot
After winning her first pro title, Ebanie Bridges would receive the then-biggest shot of her short pro career. She traveled to London, England to fight Shannon Courtenay for the vacant WBA Female Bantamweight Championship.
This was the highest-profile fight of her career that led Bridges to become an internationally known star. In this huge title bout, this was the first time that a huge international audience saw Bridges.
Her beauty earned her a lot of press and attention from this point on throughout her career. In the fight, Ebanie would fight hard, but drop a decision loss to Courtenay.
Despite this loss, Bridges’ star would continue to rise within the world of boxing.
Ebanie’s Bounce Back & World Title Win
After suffering her first professional loss, Ebanie quickly bounced back from the loss. In her return bout, she beat Bec Connolly by third-round TKO in Brentwood, England on August 7th, 2021.
Bridges would earn another decision win in her next bout against Mailys Gangloff in Leeds, England.
Now at 7-1, Ebanie Bridges would once again find herself in a spot to win another world title. This time, she faced Maria Cecillia Roman for the IBF Female Bantamweight Championship.
Roman would be Ebanie’s toughest fight to date as she was defending the title for the seventh time. The two bantamweights sat in the pocket and traded hard blows for the duration of the title bout.
At the end of the fight, all the judges scored the bout for Bridges to win her first world title. The boxing star had finally become a world champion.
The Continued Rise of Ebanie Bridges
As the new IBF Female Bantamweight Champion, Bridges’ fame only continued to rise. Her next bout would be a title defense against opponent Shannon O’Connell in Leeds, England.
Ebanie’s first title defense would be a success as she defeated O’Connell by TKO. A year later, Bridges was scheduled to face fellow Australian boxer Avril Mathie at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
Unfortunately, Mathie had to withdraw due to injury and was replaced by former world champion Miyo Yoshida. The vast difference in styles and low prep time turned out to be a problem for Bridges.
The former Japanese champion was a step ahead of the Australian champion. Upsetting Ebanie and taking the IBF title from her. Since that loss in December of 2023, Bridges has yet to make her return to the ring.
