Eddie Hearn Believes Errol Spence Jr. Will Move Up To ‘Strategically Avoid’ Terence Crawford
Eddie Hearn doesn’t think we’ll see a Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence Jr. fight anytime soon.
Crawford recently earned arguably his most impressive win yet with a 10th-round TKO victory over Shawn Porter last month to successfully defend his WBO welterweight title.
Spence — who holds the WBC and IBF titles — was notably in attendance and left the arena once Porter suffered his final knockdown.
It was a perfect bit of symbolism given that a fight between him and Crawford has been slated for so long only to never come close to fruition.
Part of that is due to the purse splits, however, many observers feel Crawford is a fight Spence doesn’t want and Matchroom Boxing promoter Hearn believes the same thing.
Eddie Hearn: Spence Strategically Avoiding ‘Bud’
He even believes Spence will move up to 154 pounds so as to avoid fighting Crawford (via Michael Benson).
“I think you’re gonna see Errol Spence move up to 154lbs to avoid Terence Crawford,” Hearn said. “‘Avoid’ is maybe a harsh word, but strategically avoid. I feel a bit sorry for Crawford – I think he wants to create that legacy opportunity, I’m not sure it will be there.””
It’s certainly clear that Crawford wants to unify.
Whether that happens remains to be seen for now.
Do you think we’ll ever see Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence Jr.? Or do you agree with Eddie Hearn that the latter will move up?
