Eddie Hearn Believes If Derek Chisora Loses To Kubrat Pulev He Should Retire
Eddie Hearn thinks Derek Chisora is fighting for his career when he takes on Kubrat Pulev.
Chisora is set to fight the two-time world title challenger in Pulev at the O2 Arena, London, on July 9. It’s a crucial fight for both men and could serve as the last chance for them to get into the title conversation at heavyweight and for Hearn, he believes if Chisora loses he should retire. He also thinks the same could be said for Pulev.
“The teams see it,” Hearn said. “If he goes away and spars really badly in the last couple of months, you would be concerned, but he has not. He is sparring well, he is fit and healthy and he is up for it. We don’t see any signs of regression. Of course, as he gets older, as he is in tough fights, he is not going to be the spring chicken that he once was. At some point he will be in a fight or a spar when the people around him will go ‘no’. But that is not now.
“He is losing to elite guys, top ten guys every time. He could have won the first Parker fight, he could have won the first Dillian Whyte fight, he was robbed against Helenius, although we are going back a bit now,” Hearn continued about Chisora. “He needs to win this fight because you can’t keep losing, even at a high level and if he does lose this fight I suggest he does pack it up. It may be the same for Pulev.”
The fight between Derek Chisora and Kubrat Pulev also serves as a rematch as the two meet in 2016 for the European title in Hamburg with Pulev winning by split decision. With that, the fight is extra motivating for Chisora to right that wrong.
Chisora enters this fight on a three-fight losing streak as he has lost back-to-back decisions to Joseph Parker and then dropped a decision to Oleksandr Usyk to start the losing streak.
Do you agree with Eddie Hearn that Derek Chisora should retire if he loses?
